PlayStation 5 finally goes on sale in the UK today – everything you need to know

After months of anticipation, the PlayStation 5 finally goes on sale in the UK today.

The gaming console launched in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea on November 12, ahead of its release in the UK.

Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said: “Today marks a historic moment for the PlayStation brand, and all of us at SIE are pleased to celebrate the release of PlayStation 5 together with our community of fans, game developers, and industry partners.

“PS5 is a truly next-generation console representing the beginning of a new era for gaming. I’m thrilled for the new worlds that players will begin to experience today, and I’m equally excited for the lineup of games still to come for PS5 that will continue to propel the gameplay experience forward.

“We are humbled to work with a talented community of world class game developers. Their creativity will bring limitless possibilities to what the future of gaming can look like on PS5.”

There are two versions of the console – the PS5 Digital Edition, which retails at £349.99, and the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive, which is available for £449.99.

A host of exciting new games are also on offer on launch day.

This includes Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Astro’s Playroom.

And PS5 owners have several other titles to look forward to in the coming months, including Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, Destruction AllStars, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and a new God of War game.

If you’re hoping to get the PlayStation 5 on launch day, it’s important to note that no units will be available in-store for purchase on November 19.

Sid Shuman, Senior Director, SIE Content Communications, said: “No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase.

“Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.

“Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailer’s safety protocols. Please confirm the details with your local retailer.

“A special thank you to our entire community for your continued support this year. Here’s to the next generation of gaming!”
